Veterans Benefits: Start with a Conversation
You served our country, and you deserve to understand the benefits that may be available to you. For veterans and their families, knowing where to begin can feel overwhelming. A simple conversation with the right person can help you take that first step.
What benefits should you explore?
Depending on your service history and circumstances, you may qualify for:
VA health care: Medical care and services for eligible veterans. You do not always need a service-connected disability to qualify.
Disability compensation: Monthly, tax-free payments for qualifying illnesses or injuries caused or worsened by military service.
Veterans Pension: Financial support for qualifying wartime veterans who meet age or disability requirements and income and net worth limits.
Aid and Attendance: An increased pension benefit for eligible veterans and survivors who need help with daily activities, such as bathing, dressing, or eating, or meet other qualifying conditions. Pension eligibility is required.
You don't have to figure it out alone.
A VA-accredited Veterans Service Organization representative can help you understand your options, prepare a claim, and review a VA decision. Their assistance with VA benefit claims is free. You can find an accredited representative through VA.gov.
Start by gathering your discharge papers, such as your DD214, and writing down your questions and current needs. If you have applied before, bring any VA decision letters so your representative can review them.
At Eastern Georgia HVP, our mission is rooted in serving those who served. We encourage veterans and families to ask questions, explore available resources, and seek support before a crisis arises.
Your service matters. Let's help you take the next step toward the benefits you've earned.
